The Unfolding Chair takes a second look at what might be the most common chair ever made. The 1941 steel folding chair by Krueger Metal Products was designed for utility and economy, made from excess metal from steel companies, light enough to fold and nest, and commonly sold for two dollars.

By producing the image of that chair in solid bronze and removing its ability to fold and nest, the design trades functional value for material value, thus unfolding the design.
